Just In Time, Warm Cozy Quilts To Make

quiltQuilting is something that everyone can do, it may seem hard at first but once you get the hang of it you won’t want to quit.

First off, you need to find some coordinating fabrics that you like, then you need to pick a pattern.  A simple block pattern is what most beginners start with. It’s easy and makes the quilt come together fairly quickly.

Once you have your pattern and your fabric picked out, you then decide up on the size of the quilt. Do you want something that is crib size for a new member of your family or perhaps you’re thinking of something larger, like a queen or king size as a gift?

Something else that you will need for your quilt project is batting. There are many lofts to choose from depending on the softness that you desire. And you might want to be thinking also do you want to quilt the top with a quilt machine or do you want to do something simple like tying it with yarn. A cutting mat and rotary cutter will also be helpful along with scissors. Shapes of all different sizes can be found at Joann’s fabric store or other craft and hobby stores. They can also be found on line to order. The Accuquilt cutting systems has many dies to make cutting pieces even easier if you decide to continue quilting.  Now that you have all your supplies (thread, scissors and patterns) you are ready to start.  First you will cut out all your pieces and figure out the width of you quilt. I have found that using a cheap table cloth found at the dollar store with the fuzzy side up, stapled or pinned to the wall is very helpful in helping you visualize how you want your quilt to look.

Now that your project is finished it is time to choose the back fabric of your blanket. Do you want some thing that is solid or would you like a fun print?  Don’t forget to pick out a binding for the quilt that goes with the fabric. Once you have gotten all the pieces sewn on and the top quilted or tied you now have a beautiful gift to keep for yourself or give away.

Happy Quilting !
